有位同学这样审题：为了减少旅游时间，城市中心附近应该多修公寓；还有位同学这样审题：为了减轻交通压力，应该在城市中心公寓附近修公园。这都是哪跟哪啊？逻辑也不顺啊！遇到这种情况，多花点时间好好读一读题目，行不行？这样审题，也就意味着这次考试全部失败了。所有的努力都付之东流，所有的期待都烟消云散，是可惜，孰不可惜！

题目中出现the best way，在雅思考试里很常见。比如“为了降低交通事故，最好的办法是提高驾驶的最小年龄”，“为了减轻交通压力，最好的办法是征拥堵税_，“为了帮助孩子学习，最好的办法是让他们多看电视”等等。这类题目的答题思路一般都是：首先承认并论证题目中提出的办法的确有用，然后找出这个办法的缺陷并提出更好的办法。

把城市中心附近的公园都变成公寓，上下班的人就不用住在很远的地方，他们甚至可以从公寓里步行到公司上班，这无疑会减少他们花费在路上的时间（travelling time / commuting time）【承认其合理性】；但是如果城市中心附近都是公寓，会让本已拥挤的城市变得更加拥挤，本已很污染的城市变得更加污染，而在这样的钢筋水泥楼房中办公，会增加人们的焦虑感，降低其工作效率，从而在很大程度上抵消了（offset / undo）降低通勤时间带来的好处（benefits）【讨论其缺陷性】；为了降低通勤时间，其实还有其他更好的办法，比如利用远程通讯技术，让大家尽量在家里上班【提出替代方案】。

This idea, if well carried out, can be rather effective in reducing the commuting time for many workers. Living in the apartment buildings close to work can help save a lot of time because the commuters do not have to travel that much. They can even walk to their offices. This is actually a beautiful dream for many who have been troubled by the heavy traffic in big cities on their way to and from work.

On second thoughts, however, the dream may not be that beautiful at all. We can hardly imagine what the city centre would look like when millions of people moved into the numerous apartment buildings there. It would become a great deal more crowded and polluted than before. To make it worse, when they need to find a park or garden so that they can take a little rest, people would have to spend a few hours travelling out of town. Working and living in such a busy and noisy environment, people would not be able to find the pleasure that is so important for their work and life, and the benefits they have gained from the shortened travelling time would be undone to a large extent.

In fact, in order to reduce the commuting time, there are better measures than having more apartment buildings in the city centre. One such measure is to take advantage of the advanced telecommunication technologies which enable people to work from home. This will save them from travelling a long way to work and at the same time maintain their positive feeling towards life and work.

总体来说，雅思写作题目中的词汇属于基础词汇，基本不会涉及到高难度词语。但是，如果在考试中偶尔碰到不认识的词该怎么处理呢?

首先，如果题目background information出现两个对比观点，如果一方观点中有词汇不认识，可通过另一个观点推出该词的大致意思。例如：Some people think students should go to boarding schools instead of living at home. Do you agree or disagree? 此题中，比方说有同学不认识boarding school，那么可以通过live at home推测出其意思，因为，这两者是对立关系，所以，学生住在家里的对立面应该是住在学校里，由此推测boarding school应该是指寄宿学校。

此外，有些生词后面会给出具体的例子，那么我们可以根据例子来推测该词的意思。比方说，In many countries, fossil fuels such as coal, natural gas and crude oil are the main source of energy while in some other countries, the use of alternative sources of energy such as wind power and solar energy is increasingly encouraged. To what extent do you think this is a positive development? 很多同学都不认识这个题目中的fossil fuel和alternative sources两个词，但是我们可以发现，这两个词后面都跟了具体的例子，通过分析例子，我们发现他们分别有共性，一种是传统能源而另一种则是清洁能源，故此，推断出这两个词的意思。

但是，如果实在推测不出生词的意思，那么只有避开生词部分，转而讨论另一方面，比如boarding school VS living at home这个话题，如果考生不熟悉boarding school，那大可以转向讨论学生住在家里的好处。
